We are a very active couple approaching retirement and we are interested in moving next year to live on Cherokee Lake. Interests include boating, casual fishing, hiking, gardening, interior decorating and social beer entertainers.

Would appreciate any feedback given with regard to:

Cost we can expect to pay for either building or purchasing lake frontage home
Feed back on lake front real esate subdivisions
Advantages/disadvantages of living on Lake Cherokee
Are surrounding towns non alcholol
Winter weather

Thanks, all!!

You need to visit during the summer when the lake is high, and also during the winter when its' low. What may be lakefront at high lake level may be far from lakefront at low level.

Otherwise as TN Tin Man said, travel around the lake, talk to the locals. Everything from private lots with modest homes to big estates...

Use Google Earth and see the lighter areas....that's the shore line. It can double in width. As a kid I spent many summers on the lake.. deep red clay that stains everything and is slick as grease on wet glass and has bits of flint mixed in.
Beautiful area ! Take a tour on Google Earth grab the little yellow icon and drop it down on a road that's highlighted in blue..pan around 360 degrees..is how I check areas of interest out..
