Loxahatchee! Well, hi Florida neighbor, now Tennessee neighbor!
It's so beautiful here isn't it? I love the weather and the people are so down to earth and friendly.
We moved here a month ago from Ocala Fl. We are now in Seymour TN and we love it, the mountains are beautiful, the people are so friendly and we are so close to everything. I do not regret moving here, yet any way, and I left all my kids and grandkids down in Fl so that was hard but sometimes as we get older we have to put ourselves first since our lifetime is getting shorter and shorter. I will let you know more after Jan when I experience my first real winter(winter in Florida isnt real, lol)
I saw this on the Florida forum and thought I'd modify it for Tennessee.
For those who moved to Tennessee:
1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Tennessee? I came from Romulus, Michigan. 17 years ago to Jackson County/Gainesboro
2. What was the most important reason why you moved to Tennessee?
Married a redneck boy. When we stated having our kids and they started school. He packed us up and headed "down home".
3. What made you pick the particular town in Tennessee that you moved to?
Hubby was born here.
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move?
It took me a few month's. I got really home sick for a week or two. Then settled down and took in the beauty, ease of life and laid back atmosphere. My ulsers went away. lol
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move to Tennessee? If no, would you have chosen a different town in Tennessee, moved to someplace other than Tennessee or returned to the place you left?
Absolutely! I may have chosen Sparta. Idk. Flatter land and would have maybe made the transition easier.
6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Tennessee than where you moved from?
Better, Better, Better!!!!!
7. Do you have friends of relatives in other states that tried to either directly persuade you not to move to Tennessee or showed their displeasure/disapproval/incredulity/disgust/non-enthusiasm in more subtle ways? Why, do you know?
My parents were very disapointed. I am the baby of the family and have the youngest grandkids. And only grandsons. After 1 year they sold their house and moved here. They live next door.
8. Do you think the town where you live now in Tennessee will eventually turn into the place you left? If so, how long will it take?
It will but it will be a while yet. I expect change to start rapidly after the first of the year when this main hwy starts expansion. It will link KY to I 40. I think it will NEVER be like Romulus, Michigan. I pray not. I visited last year when my brother passed away. I don't want to go back even to visit. It's not like it was when I left. Much worse.
9. Since you got here, what has surprised you most either about Tennessee or your town in Tennessee? (good or bad)
The only thing I can think of is I should have moved here sooner and had money to buy properties 17 years ago.
10. Would you recommend others move to Tennessee?
Oh yea!
Extra Question: What haven't you done yet since moving to Tennessee that you would like to do?
Not a thing. I'm happy with my choice and life here.
I saw this on the Florida forum and thought I'd modify it for Tennessee.

Why, do you know? No, but we had six families that visited us durring the first year we were here. They have all moved to the area....then I became a realtor !!!

1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Tennessee?
Murrieta, CA. Been here since June 2005.
2. What was the most important reason why you moved to Tennessee?
It's beautiful here, undervalued housing market, sincere friendly people, no congested freeways, no smog, no state income tax, low property taxes, mild winters, need I say more ?
3. What made you pick the particular town in Tennessee that you moved to?
Jackson is a small town with all the conveniences that are needed. I was and am still astonished at the amount of home that you get for the $$.
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move?
Immediately
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move to Tennessee? If no, would you have chosen a different town in Tennessee, moved to someplace other than Tennessee or returned to the place you left? I am right where I want to be.
6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Tennessee than where you moved from?
Miles and miles better, wish we would have moved here sooner.
7. Do you have friends of relatives in other states that tried to either directly persuade you not to move to Tennessee or showed their displeasure/disapproval/incredulity/disgust/non-enthusiasm in more subtle ways?
My friends in Calif. were in disbelief when I told them that we were moving to Tennessee. We received the usual uninformed wisecracks from them and most of them are now trying to get out from their tremendously upside down mortgages.
8. Do you think the town where you live now in Tennessee will eventually turn into the place you left? If so, how long will it take?
If so it would take many years to accumulate all the headaches.
9. Since you got here, what has surprised you most either about Tennessee or your town in Tennessee? Not a whole lot, I did a whole lot of research before moving, we did not want to make a costly mistake. I will say that I am surprised by the large amount of people moving here to Jackson and the resulting housing market appreciation. My analysis showed that Jackson would grow but I didn't expect it to happen so quickly.
10. Would you recommend others move to Tennessee?
In a heart beat.
. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Tennessee?
Dayton, Ohio. 33 years
2. What was the most important reason why you moved to Tennessee?
No choice. Parents were born and raised in mid TN. No jobs here after WWII so dad moved to Dayton to work and brought us home when he retired.
3. What made you pick the particular town in Tennessee that you moved to?
Not my choice.
4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move? A couple years. I was a teenager at the time.
5. If you had to do it over again would you still move to Tennessee? If no, would you have chosen a different town in Tennessee, moved to someplace other than Tennessee or returned to the place you left?
I am very thankful my parents moved us back to TN. I probably would have chosen a bit larger town (Cookeville or Crossville) but Im happy where Im at now.
6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Tennessee than where you moved from?
Way better
7. Do you have friends of relatives in other states that tried to either directly persuade you not to move to Tennessee or showed their displeasure/disapproval/incredulity/disgust/non-enthusiasm in more subtle ways? Why, do you know?
No way. Most of my relatives are in TN.
8. Do you think the town where you live now in Tennessee will eventually turn into the place you left? If so, how long will it take?
Not specifically the place I left, but I definately see much much change since the invasion began and I believe this area will become like the places people are leaving. There is already more traffic, housing prices have steadlily increased, gated communities everywhere, more restrictions, less and less land for public use. etc.
9. Since you got here, what has surprised you most either about Tennessee or your town in Tennessee? (good or bad)
Nothing. My family visited my grandparents in this town 2 weeks a year since I could remember.
10. Would you recommend others move to Tennessee?
Heck No! We have enough transplants already.

Extra Question: What haven't you done yet since moving to Tennessee that you would like to do?
1. Naples, Florida - the Gulf Coast between Everglades / Miami and Ft Myers.
2. Toss up between the lifestyle and the cost of living
3. The home and town had every single thing we wanted
4. 2.3 seconds!!
5. I'd have done it years and years ago!
6. Much much much better
7. My parents and grandfather are on the NC / TN border so they were pretty excited that we were moving up!
8. I think all things are destined to grow. It's inevitable. Ours will probably be one of the last hold outs. People around us have had their mountains and their farms in their family for generations and they seem to hold their land as something that is very important to them. But, there are some outlying areas that I've seen gated communities going up at. I've seen the occasional Escalade pass the house. It'll be awhile, but yeh, I think it's inevitable.
9. Some of the crazy whacky laws, specifically when it comes to the pets you can / can't have. I was really bummed about that. Anyone coming this way with pets other than a dog (only specific breeds allowed in some areas) or cats (as long as they are standard domestic and not the cross breeds) or a bird (with the exception of quakers), do your homework.
10. I think it's like every other place on the planet. Some people are going to love it, some will hate it. I have a friend in NH that would despise where I live. But I would detest her gated community. Then again, there are plenty gated communities in TN that she would love. For those that have the sea in their veins, that's a tough one. It's the only thing I miss about Florida, so we're planning on building a very small home on the northern coast of Maine some day. I just miss the sound of the waves and the seagulls.
Bonus : Win the lottery?? LOL!! Honestly, there's so many things to do - incredible state parks, caves, etc. I'd love to have the time and money to take the kids to explore them all.
