I agree with actsmom. I lived in florida for 30 years and it is not as expensive as you say. All my family lives in Melbourne, Florida and they definitely don't pay the prices you do. You live in one of the most expensive part of florida. If you live there than you can afford paying those prices!!!!!!!!!! You are in a tourist trap. I wish I had the 85 degree temp problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a quick comment on your assumption that "if I live here, then I can afford to pay these prices." I live here because my husband's job transferred him here. And the prices are just one of the many reasons that we can hardly wait till we retire in 91 days to East TN. This is a nice place to come for a one-time vacation....but living here......not a pleasant place at all!!!

So all of you former floridians that dislike TN......you are welcome to take my place!! Tennessee is one of the friendliest places around, and we can hardly wait to call TN HOME!!!! GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!

By the way, it's WINTER down here today.......it was 41 degrees when we woke up!!!

Well, I was born and raised in Miami, moved to Ocala in 78 and lived there until Sept 76 of 07 and now live in Tn and I dont want to move back, you are right, TN has the friendliest people and its a great place to live, weather and all. Good luck on your move to East Tn, I am in Seymour and I love it.

How about electric? Bet it's cheaper here. I'm going to guess gasoline is cheaper, too. I moved here in May 2007 and have yet to pay $3 or more for gasoline.

1. Where did you come from and how long have you been in Tennessee?
I moved from Fort Lauderdale and have been here 3 years.

2. What was the most important reason why you moved to Tennessee?
The crime and lack of real "community" - it stopped being a good place to raise our children.

3. What made you pick the particular town in Tennessee that you moved to?
We had family members that had moved here several years prior. We intended to move to NC, but during a visit here we changed our minds.

4. How long did it take you to get comfortable with the move?
I was comfortable instantly.

5. If you had to do it over again would you still move to Tennessee? If no, would you have chosen a different town in Tennessee, moved to someplace other than Tennessee or returned to the place you left?
I would not change a thing.

6. Is your "overall " life better or worse in Tennessee than where you moved from?
My life and that of my family's is so much better.

7. Do you have friends of relatives in other states that tried to either directly persuade you not to move to Tennessee or showed their displeasure/disapproval/incredulity/disgust/non-enthusiasm in more subtle ways? Why, do you know?
Nobody tried to persuade us or even suggested it. Most of our neighbors had also become disgusted with south Florida and also hoping to move.

8. Do you think the town where you live now in Tennessee will eventually turn into the place you left? If so, how long will it take?
I hope not. Obviously the population is growing but there seems to be something about this community that embraces it's roots and heritage coupled with good values and real community that will moderate that growth.

9. Since you got here, what has surprised you most either about Tennessee or your town in Tennessee? (good or bad)
The level of church involvement and membership. One of the first questions I am usually asked is "where do you worship?"

10. Would you recommend others move to Tennessee?
Sure if they are clear on what the move entails and if Tennessee is what they are really looking for.

Extra Question: What haven't you done yet since moving to Tennessee that you would like to do?
Go see Fall River Falls.
