HI everybody. I've been perusing the threads here and you all seem to offer very good advice so I'm hoping you can at least give me a starting point. We currently live in Florida. We want to move to TN for a few reasons but mainly the weather. My husband and I have three daughters, ages 17, 13 and 8. We are so tired of being hot and closed up inside here. We are eager to get outside and explore. We have visited the Chattanooga, Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area while on vacation and loved it. Loved the people, the weather, the scenery. Our oldest will graduate from high school in June and the middle one will start high school in August. This coming summer is the best time to make our move. We just have to decide where to put down some roots. We are tired of cement and really want to live outside of the big cities. We want to live somewhere where people respond when we say hi. My husband is a plumber and will be looking to get his license in TN. I have been a stay at home mom but have worked in payroll/HR and will most likely be trying to get back into that. Also looking to start a small home health business with my sisters who are CNA's. I would appreciate any advice you can give about what cities or regions would be best for us. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Thank you thank you thank you.

If you want outside of a very large city but still want the amenities of being near to a smaller city, Chattanooga and Knoxville may be good fits. They're not too big where the traffic is awful, but have good amenities for cities their size. They have the diverse shopping, restaurants, and activities that you may like in a place to live. You can be 20-30 mins outside of these cities and be incredibly rural if thats what you want.

I'll second the Chattanooga and Knoxville recommendations. Though Florida is also in bad shape jobs wise, once you get outside of the "big four" in TN, things go downhill economically. Taxes are likely to be cheaper overall than FL, cost of living is likely to be less, and wages may be about on par with where you are. Knoxville is doing well economically, all things considered.
