My husband & I are looking for a place to retire in the next 3-4 yrs & need some ideas of where that might be?? Have Family in Ky, too far North for us. Just visited the Smokies and (Chattanooga downtown), thought Chattanooga was the area but only saw down town & didn't give us a good impression of the surrounding areas. Would love to not have Hurricanes or the heat but still remain in driving distance to home to visit Family & have them visit us, no more than a 7 hr drive. We want a few acres...a place with some hills & a view, seasons etc. Scared to death of tornado's lol know that natural disasters happen everywhere but also know that there are places that they are less likely to happen.
Dreaming of a few acres....love gardening, would love a few animals
Hills
Water for fishing A river, lake?? A pond

Seasons
Don't want to be too far in the country....no more than 15 or 20 mins away from groceries, health care (hospital) etc Walmart, Home Depot etc.
I lost my heart to the Smokies yrs ago & would gladly stay but too far north for my husband so we have to compromise Any Ideas?? Love the people of Tenn. Georgia, Ala. Tired of the Big Easy, Tired of Levee's, Tired of the Heat & Humidity.
Any ideas??? We would really appreciate some ideas & input so we can visit

Knoxville area. My Bill grew up in Nola and when we moved to Knoxville, he used to say to him Knoxville was better then Nola. That was a massive compliment considering he loved the big Easy. You may find it works that way for you too.
All the best in your search.
Pam

If you want to stay within 7 hours of Nola that will pretty much limit you to the Chattanooga area. Athens TN, just north of Chattanooga, is an 8 hour trip.

My husband would probably be good with 8 hrs but The Smokies is too far for him....thats a bit over 10 hrs for gas & eating for us. Think he feels like he's left the country once you get that far

You might want to spend a little time digging around on the Chattanooga forum and then ask any specific questions there, maybe give folks an idea of what your budget might be and how much land you want to buy with that, etc.
