I live in Illinois, but technically work out of TN. I'm interested in buying a motorcycle just for use when I'm in TN. Can I register it to TN, even though I have an Illinois license?

You're going to have to register the vehicle in the state of your primary residence.

Where is the vehicle primarily garaged?

I would hope that one could register it in TN if it is kept in Tn. I have a vacation home in Tn and will eventually bring one of my vehicles there so that when I fly in to visit I will not have to rent a vehicle for the whole time I am visiting. And I know that I could not keep it registered where I live full time because it would not be in that state for their inspection and smog testing.

Anyone know if what I have planned is legal in Tn? My driver's license would stay with my home state.

Call the county clerk's office for the county where your vacation home is and ask them to be sure.

There are generally laws regarding transferring titles, licenses, and plates to a new state of residence within a certain time frame. Nothing in the OP indicated vacation home.
