OP, Pinson is basically south Jackson -- a spot on the road between Jackson and Henderson. It's not an actual town. I can't say that I would recommend that area.

Have you looked into Paris? Martin/Dresden? Henderson? Selmer? I think all of those places would meet your criteria, and all are reasonably priced.

Best of luck.

Hiknapster --- I made the mistake of looking at the houses you suggested and am sorry I did!!!!! I absolutely love several but they are WAYYYYY too expensive. Unless someone was very desperate and would take a totally low ball cash offer, those won't work and I wouldn't want to waste someone's time looking at them.

Thanks for helping though ----- now if you know someone who is absolutely desperate -------

My husband looked at the Willoughby Loop one in Pinson and loved the land but the house (even with skylights) was depressingly dark. We need light and airy with a open floor plan. With the brick walls there was no way to easily add windows. Also, the largest space in the house was a closed-in garage that was called a 'family room'.

Pinson looks good but my husband saw the Willoughby Loop Rd. one a couple of weeks ago and it looks better on paper than in real life. The property was just excellent but the house was depressingly dark. Because of the brick exterior it would be difficult to add windows ---- the owner did put in skylights but it didn't help much. Also, he said the master bedroom took up about 1/3 of the house and the only light and airy room was a garage that was converted into a family room. Other than that, the home was in very nice condition. Anyway --- we both like 'light and airy - open floor plan' and this didn't have that.

If you're selling out in a wealthy part of Illinois like Chicagoland, the equity alone should be enough to buy about whatever you want in cash in rural Tennessee.

One of OP's criteria was good medical facilities. That rules out Selmer and even Henderson. Personally, I would not look for property in Henderson - that city is ruled by an ultra conservative college that still refers to its students as "our children". Yes, this is the year 2014.

While I love McNairy County, I really don't think it's what the OP is looking for. The same with Chester County. Madison County (where Jackson is) is going to be the closest to OP's needs. There are some gorgeous areas of Jackson and it's possible to find some with lots of acreage.

If he wants hunting, eastern Chester County or even the north end of McNairy County - but that leaves a 30-45 min drive to the medical centers in Jackson.

I would only look on the mls for current information on what's for sale. If you want, OP, PM me for the MLS access I used when buying our house. I did all my searching from NYC and arranged the entire sale online - except the lawyer messed up our description so we had to fly down and fix that.
