Typical highs in winter are 40s and 50s (with 20s and 30s for highs being about as low as it gets for the high temps) and average lows in the 20s and 30s, with occasional teens and upper single digits with the harshest artic outbreaks, which only normally last only a day or two.

This week is a prime example. Wednesday, we will have highs only in the mid 20s, which is well below average for us, with lows in the mid 10s, again, well below normal, but by the weekend, it will be back into the 50s and some forecasters are forecasting lower to mid 60s by the first of next week. We can often have nice warm spells in the winter, where 60s and even 70s are not unheard of.

Love that!! Can't wait. Wish I could start packing. Could you tell me about area hospitals? I'm a phlebotomist and would need to find work. Also going to Nursing school. Any recommendations.

You'll be fine, then, and still being in the workforce you will probably be indoors when the heat is bad. You know when the kids go back to school up North around Labor Day and you get that invigorating cold snap? Well, it's still in the 90s/upper 80s here at that time. It doesn't really cool off here until November and by cool off, I mean about the same temps you experience around Labor Day where you live. But, I have to tell you, I was outside yesterday morning around 6:00A and I just relied on the car heater/defroster to get the frost off my windshield (no scraper) and it was only 19 degrees and we had flurries overnight. If I was still working, I could live with that. This was the first day since I have been here that I wore gloves and I know it was 19, but to me it felt warmer than that.

I have a friend who's orginally from Maine. He has a joke that in Maine they ask, "What day was summer?"

He also tells us his goofy moose hunting stories.

Summer is usually on the Fourth of July. LOL
Speaking of which, looking forward to spending it in TN this year.

If you're anywhere near Nashville, come to the free 4th of July bash at Riverfront Park. There's generally at least one or two big name acts and a lot of lesser knowns. The fireworks display is ranking about the 3rd best in the whole country.

Would love to go to that. I watch it on tv and enjoy it. Can only imagine how great it is to be there.

I don't care so much about it being cold since I'm a native of cold winters. It's the driving in a foot of snow every other day that is killing me. We are not winter sports people so this is just a big inconvenience for me.

Thanks for your responses.

I live in Cookeville, TN and I think you'll find our area quite nice. There are all sorts of links via Google (I'm not going to post any for fear of getting a note from a moderator).....feel free to post any questions and I'll do my level best to answer them. The weather (and I'm an expert on it) would be considered moderate in our area. Winters get cold at times...a little snow from time to time..and summers can get hot....we get all 4 seasons and each are very nice. Hope this helps.
