My sister and I are planning to move to a city near Nashville. We were looking into Franklin and Spring Hill but is rent too high there? We are both very low income with children and animals.
What city has the cheapest rent near Nashville?

Thanks!

How far away from Nashville are you willing to live?

One thought it the area towards Ashland City (part of this is in Metro Nashville/Davidson County and part of it is in Cheatham County).

Distance is so relative. I think of myself as outside of Nashville, but I'm actually 2 hours away. It's incredibly cheap to live where I do. I got a huge 2550+ square foot brick 5 bedroom home on 7+ acres for under $100k. However, because I work in Nashville and live nearly 100 miles away, my monthly fuel expense is about $500. For me it was a great trade off as I like a rural area since I have kids and pets and we like our privacy and the type of neighbors we have (conservative values). There's no way we could ever live in Nashville. We'd never fit in.

Also, something to keep in mind.................

There are some towns outside of Nashville that have BSL, so I'm not sure what kind of pets you have, and if they're dogs, what breeds, but it's something to think about. We nearly bought a home outside of Smyrna when we came up here to look, but then found out they have BSL there against Rottweilers. We had 3 of the sweetest rotties you'd ever meet and we've had people that were terrified of the breed meet them and be floored at how social and affectionate they are. Regardless of the fact that they are so well socialized and were common visitors in Florida to schools, churches, hospitals, retirement homes, etc., they still would not allow us to live there with them. We'd either have to re-home them or have them put down. Our pets are our family. That just wasn't an option for us. And being as pig-headed as I am, I now refuse to even stop there for gas until they change their stupid, worthless BSL laws.

Franklin rent is going to be high by most all accounts. I would cross that off my list already.

Spring Hill might be affordable for you, but traveling north out of the town is atrocious.

Look into somewhere like Ashland City, Dickson, Columbia, or some of the rural areas north of Davidson county.
