This is the Cumberland Gap Tunnel along US 25E that replaced the old highway that traveled through the historic gap. In this video we are going south from Kentucky to Tennessee.

This is an engineering marvel. I travel through it every month or two.

Dude. The speed limit on that road is 45 - I think someone was going faster than that!

I have a lot of family on my Dad's side in that area. Daddy is buried just outside Pineville and we stay in the cabins at the Pine Mountain Resort when we visit. I clearly remember traveling the old US25 (scared the crap out of me each time going over that mountain) and when the tunnel was being built. Beautiful area of the country.

What would Daniel Boone say about that tunnel??? In the 1700s it was a huge effort just to cross, but today its done in minutes. That is such a beautiful area up there, and so much history to it. You can still walk much of the old road through the national park that is there.
