The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows how Tennessee's metropolitan areas have fared in job growth from December 2013 to December 2014.

Metro area...# new jobs...% growth
Chattanooga...4,700...2.0
Clarksville...200...0.2
Cleveland...1,700...3.8
Jackson...1,000...1.6
Johnson City...(500)...-0.6
Kingsport-Bristol...1,000...0.8
Knoxville...11,100...3.3
Memphis...5,900...1.0
Morristown...200...0.4
Nashville...25,600...3.1

By the way, Nashville's job growth surpasses every metro area in the entire Southeast except for Atlanta, Miami, and Orlando, even more than Charlotte and Raleigh-Durham.

I've always been impressed with the Knoxville job market. I think for the size of the city it does quite well.

Thanks for sharing this info! I love this kind of stuff.

No surprise that far upper eastern TN barely puttering around even. Count in the county areas not in the city limits, and I bet they're still seeing net job losses. Knoxville and Cleveland are positive surprises.

Are the VW jobs counted in Cleveland or Chattanooga?

Chatty/Cleveland/Knoxville corridor is doing pretty well right now. Good to see.

It's interesting that the Nashville metro alone added 25,600. The other metros all added 25,800 combined.

True, but the only other metro that compares in size to Nashville is Memphis. Knoxville grew at a similar rate to Nashville, but since it's quite a bit smaller, the raw numbers are less...

... but yes, Memphis' economy is less than stellar.
