Chattanooga Times Free Press | Area suburban counties grew the fastest in 2007

Good article on the growth around Chattanooga. This is some really beautiful country, but I'm partial...

Quote from the article, " The new census report found that three of the nation’s 10 fastest growing counties — and 18 of the top 100 — were in Georgia last year. Most of those counties ring Atlanta."

Could this be why they want the Tennessee River? They need to slow this down for the good of the region, or start building desalination plants to assist in the demand.

Yeah, yeah, they're all coming here for small town values, pretty and cheapness and then when they get here, they cut down all the trees to build, they become the demanding people they've always been (gotta have this road, that store, this social program) and pretty soon, the small town isn't so small anymore, taxes go up to support their demands and the values have changed to the ones they brought with them from the places they've fled in the past.

in the TN forum--------------------"why everyone is moving to TN"

frequently in the Arkansas forum---"why is everyone from CA moving to NW Arkansas"

today in the Georgia forum-------"Georgia is the fastest growing state in the SE'

If this trend of-----"everyone"---moving to TN, AR,GA, continues-----there certainly will be "ghost states" in Florida and California.

That is presuming the word --"everyone"--- isn't being a little bit exaggerated.

Laura C , not everyone is moving here to cut down trees ,and want to change things. When I looked at TN ,I looked at the way it is, not what I thought it should be.I actually love TN FOR the trees and smallness , if I wanted less trees and the total luxury of having a WAWA every block away I should have stayed where I was.I still can't get over the beautiful mnts everywhere I look! People coming from somewhere else should see the state what is is not what their idea is. Ans LauraC I mean this post with the upmost respect to you.

Thank you for stating was I was thinking Laura C and Kim918. The whole reason for my family and I want to move is to be in a small town with plenty of trees. No strip centers and stores everyone where you go. Thanks again.

KIM918, PHYLL & HEATHDAWN,
Thanks , You guys took the words right out of my mouth. That's why I love TN sooo much, just the way it is. I can't say enough about how beautiful it is. And I can hardly wait to move and get settled on our property. It will give me a chance to finally relax (well, after we get settled in, of course). I just want to work in my yard and my house, do all the things I want to do, for a change. Thank you Tennessee.
Happy Easter to Everyone.

Grizzly, "they" don't want the Tennessee River! I know that people around Chattanooga must be up to their gills (so to speak) with GA's water problem, but believe me, Georgians by and large are laughing their heads off at these 2 legislators who have dreamt this up! It is really a non-issue. It isn't in the papers here. If it comes up in conversation, most Georgians just laugh at the whole idea and are embarrassed that they have these 2 yahoos in state government. No worries from GA.

Atlanta, sadly, is becoming the NYC of the South. There are so many companies, domestic and foreign, moving into the area that there is just no end to the growth in sight.

No city or state is going to turn down huge mega $$$ companies and thousands of new jobs to save a tree. It is just a fact of life and greed of corporate America. Revenue and power carry a lot more weight with those that have and those in power than anything that might affect Joe Taxpayer. Sad, but true.

And, I agree with all of the posters about the beauty and splendor of TN being preserved at all costs. Development is going to come as a result of the demagraphics of the country changing, but it can happen in a controlled, non-destructive manner if we are ALL diligent.

LauraC, I know that you don't feel that this is possible, but we each have to make a contribution and see to that as much of TN remains unspoiled as possible. I know it is frustrating, especially for natives of the state, but it seems that there are so many willing and trying to do their part to keep TN as it is. Tennessee unspoiled is what draws us here in the first place. Let's keep it that way. We do not need another Atlanta or Asheville.

I completely agree. The reason that many of us enjoy this state, and at sometime will look to relocate to it, is because of how it is today. Beautiful, natural, nice climate...ahhh

You are kidding yourself if you think the hordes that are moving here aren't coming for cheap. Do you really think Joe New Yorker (for example), by way of Florida, would come to Tennessee if it wasn't as cheap to live in NY? Pretty is just an "oh yeah, that's nice, too." If it was true they are coming here for pretty or Tennessee culture, why didn't they move here years ago? Even retirees, do you think they would have considered Tennessee 10 years ago if it would be just as cheap for them to move to Florida?
