We are retired and considering a move to houseboat living.
My wife was in impressed with some of the areas of TN when we visited last.
Can anyone tell me of a good lake area to live full time and some of the costs.
We like to fish and traveled in an RV for years so we are quite accustomed to power management and such.
Thanks

Do the larger water areas in TN all freeze in winter?

I think it would be risky business.

I am in Middle Tennessee and it seems like the below freezing days/nights are lasting longer. I know because I have horses and keep heated stock tanks and use heated water buckets in their stalls when It gets below freezing, lol

This past winter, my 29 yr old Arab wanted to stay in the barn and I had to keep his water bucket plugged in, to keep it from freezing, several times. We have been here 12 years and I don't recall having had as many days that it didn't get above freezing, as we had this past winter.

Meaning, I agree that living on a houseboat in a state that has four unpredictable seasons, could get dicey during the winter.

That said, if you are heck bent on this endeavor, look at Norris Dam. Tim's Ford Lake is a great place too but I'm not sure houseboats are permitted.

I know Tim's Ford Lake is supposed to be great fishing. I don't know about Norris.

I have friends who live on a houseboat on Old Hickory Lake in My Juliet and love it. And no, the lakes do not freeze over in the winter. Yes the temperature can get frigid but never long enough to cause these massive lakes to form ice.

Might be nice in the calm warm weather months but then I'm not sure I would feel that safe when severe weather hits with strong winds, heavy rain and lightening strikes. The deck and dock would ice up in the winter which would make it pretty slippery.

TNX for the information. Perhaps I am going to have to look for warmer climate in another state. I just don't want it too hot!

I included the "last" link also for what we went through on land. Some folks were without electric up to several weeks.....
