City-Seacrher,
I don't recall anyone calling any part of TN "utopia" I believe we all just said why it was right for us. And yes, I like that my boys say Yes or No Ma'am, yes or no sir when they are speaking to adults as do most of the kids they are around in a day. Is it wrong to teach my children to respect others?
And if your second statement is what you believe so be it, I will not waste the time to quote you figures, but understand that TN may not be the right place for you.

You have described almost exactly the typical demographic that is moving -out of Florida. You will have lots of similar company in E TN even if you're coming from the midwest
The difference being...
-Won't be moving to East Tennessee.
-We won't be retiring.
-My family has been in Tennessee for generations.
-We didn't move to the Midwest because we wanted to, and it wasn't job related.. it was family related, hubbies not mine.

-We don't have a lot of money.
-Cost of living doubled when we moved here, but, paycheck didn't.
-I want to be near my Dad, before he forgets who I am (alzheimers).
-I miss Tennessee....

We aren't looking for some utopia.... or perfect place.
We have always lived away from the city with our chickens, and lambs.
Something we couldn't do here.
We love hunting, and having the right to own a firearm, without some nut, trying to shove gun control down our throats.
We love waving at our neighbors, and knowing people in our neighborhood.
I love being able to grow beautiful flowers, and vegetables to feed my family, can't do it here... there isn't a long enough growing season.

We had to give up the place where we loved to be, to live where we absolutely hated.

We aren't "running" away from something, we are "running" toward home.
Back where we belong.
