DH and I visit the Polk County area near Ducktown, TN quite often as we have friends who live there. One of the things we have noticed is the trash on the sides of the road. I don't mean a bag or plastic bottle here and there. I mean every foot or so is covered in garbage. I have been to a lot of places, but have NEVER seen the amount of litter that is along the main road, Highway 68 from Copperhill into Turtletown. Every time we go through there it is worse. Has anyone in the area noticed this? I would think the realtors who sell real estate in this area would be very concerned with how awful it looks. Does anyone know who can be contacted about getting it picked up? It's so sad to see litter along every square foot of that highway. It is such a lovely area. I'm surprised the City of Copperhill hasn't done something about all the garbage since there are so many tourists who come there on the train from Blue Ridge, GA.

I live in Polk County, different area, but it’s the same here. People are slobs (have you seen some of their yards?). Today I drove on the Bowater highway (163), from 411 to the Lee highway, and you could literally fill a 40 yard rollback with the litter on the side of the road. Nobody seems to care and nobody cleans it up, not even if it’s in front of their house. Sad. Where I used to live, they would get the inmates out of the prisons and do road clean up detail. They could use some of that around here. It’s real noticable right now due there is no vegetation to hide it.

I've noticed this in my area as well. It would bug me to have trash sitting on the road in front of my home. I do a daily walk on my road for about a mile each way and clean up. There isn't a single day I don't pick up at least half a grocery bag full.

Another thing that gets me is people often dump furniture and old electronics on the roadside. There is a free dump less than five miles away but they refuse to use it.

It's heartbreaking that people don't have more pride in the beautiful place in which they live.
