Thinking of maybe Tennessee to retire but it would have to be a nice area. I’d like a couple acres and we would probably build a nice house with a pool.

Any areas that are good? Being 10 miles or so in the country is ok with me. Not much farther than a 15 minute drive to grocery shopping and restaurants

Thanks

Tennessee has a lot of distinct regions. What is your budget and other wish lists other than upper middle class and somewhat country?

I would recommend Washington County outside Johnson City if you can find the land, but if you give me some more info maybe we can give other recs.

Um.... maybe a little more would help. Have you ever been to TN? Lots' of areas like that.

However I can say with some certainty the closer to mountains or lakes, these areas are probably more to your liking, I'm guessin', though.

The three major cities are Memphis, west TN, Nashville, middle TN, Knoxville east TN. Mountains and lakes most common in the east.

Don’t want to be in the mountains as it is cooler and more snow in winter

$500,000 on house and several acres.

That is it. I want away from the gang bangers illegal aliens smog and congestion of Chicagoland

Then forget my earlier recommendation of Williamson County. Instead, I'm going to recommend areas right around Cookeville. It's become a very popular area for retirees, and a couple of years ago was also ranked as one of the top small cities in the country for attracting millionaires. You can get a lot more bang for your buck than in Williamson County (my original recommendation), yet you can be at the Nashville airport in an hour'ish. The countryside is beautiful with 100 waterfalls, 1200 miles of lakeshore, and a dozen state parks within 40 minutes of town. It averages 8 inches of snow per year, scattered among 3-4 snowfalls that average just a couple of inches at a time, and it's usually melted within a day or two.

Cookeville is a small town (35,000) that's also the hub of the region, so it has a lot more shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and medical care than most towns its size. It's also a very attractive town with a wonderful, walkable downtown, and the area is very conservative.

Here's a sample of homes that match your criteria which have recently sold in the Cookeville area:

Try Sumner County out by Portland or areas east of Gallatin. If you don't want any hills, you could look at Piperton or Rossville in Fayette County out in West Tennessee, which are only a few miles outside of Collierville (hospital, shopping, restaurants).

You should check out the area around Mt Juliet. Close to Nashville, lakes, and I40. But also just a few minutes to rural areas.

Might be forced to move to the desert for that hot sun and blue skies.
