I always used to just guess at the time zones before which usually worked but this time i need to be right on the money at were that rascal runs from I 40 south.

My guess is exit 340 by mt vernon off I40 first

Then further south on hwy 30 running from pikeville & dayton it would be between summer city & morgan springs

Further south on 111 it would be pretty close to flat top

Chattanooga just to the west of the city

So how close or far am i from saying it runs just bout down the center between the two ridges

Going north to south, the western-most counties in the ET zone are Scott, Morgan, Roane, Rhea & Hamilton. IOW, all of TN to the west of those counties is on Central Time.

Official Time Zone lines and Time Zones observed are often very different things. I lived in Columbus, GA, for a time and it's right on the Eastern/Central line.
Phenix City, Ala. , was technically in the Central Zone, but since it was just across the river from Columbus, which was a much larger city and the major area employer, most people and businesses operated on "Georgia" time.
As you got farther from Columbus and closer to Auburn, they operated on "Alabama" time.
You learned to always ask someone, when they gave you a starting time, "Is that Georgia or Alabama Time?" They couldn't always be sure if they were in the grey area between Columbus and Auburn so I'd have them look at a clock where they were or their watch and tell me what time it said. I could figure it out from there.
