My wife and I (from New York) are thinking of taking a trip to see the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, perhaps in September, and would, of course, be staying in Gatlinburg. Could anyone recommend a good budget motel there? It would have to be disabled-accessible, my wife walks with a walker (no climbs up two flights of stairs) Thanks very much!

September isn't cheap in the Smokies. What is your budget?

^Right. There are a lot of hotels in the area. Just depends on how much you want to spend and how close to the Park you want to stay, and the scope of your trip.

I'd say no more than $150 per night.

You could check out choice hotels dot com
I checked and they have a lot of options in Gatlinburg or Pigeon forge less than $100 and up, Try to go Sunday thru Friday for best prices.

They have a variety of brands and should check reviews carefully.

Have fun and say hi to Dolly. Isn't she the greatest?

Agreed, at that price point just use an aggregator site and then look at the reviews and photos posted online...

I used to travel East Tennessee on business, and have perhaps spent years in hotels in Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.

It's one of the most inexpensive places to stay as long as it's the middle of the winter and the middle of the week. Fall is high time, however and especially if there's a football game going on in Knoxville on a Saturday. The properties in Pigeon Forge are somewhat newer than those in Gatlinburg--4 miles to the north.

Go to GoogleMaps.com and punch in Pigeon Forge, TN. Then go to the top of the page and click on Hotels. Little icons will pop up with room rates on them. There are dozens of hotels with $30-40-50 rooms showing today. Click on the icon and the hotel's info will come up. The map is upside down--with the bottom of the page being the north--toward the mountains.

I stayed here at Carr's years back, maybe in 2010 or so, and they were excellent! I think like 95 bucks a night? Cozy, renovated and quiet with creek views:

This place is also very reasonable, and nice:

The big issue is going to be price.

We stayed at Baymont by Wyndham this weekend for about $140/night, taxes included. It was fair but nothing great.

I would just go to Priceline or similar and do a search for that date range, then filter by price.

Thinking outside the box, we have stayed over the mountain in hotels on the Cherokee Reservation in NC.

The advantage is that they are cheaper, less crowed, and you have access to tourist sites and shopping on the Reservation.

The disadvantage is that you have an hour drive on US-441 through the beautiful Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
