They are elusive, non venomous and non aggressive.

You probably won’t ever see on but in case you do, they are good neighbors and the TWRA is tracking them to learn their habits.

It is NOT true that the only good snake is a dead one.

Yes, also rat snakes. Many snakes species found in TN in fact are non-poison/harmless to humans and beneficial as they keep rodent and other vermin population down. The rednecks here will kill anything that slithers or crawls unfortunately.

Rat snakes, king snakes, pine snakes, corn snakes and others are all super helpful and beneficial and no threat at all to humans.

Learn how to identify snakes to be less fearful

I just found a 4ft snake skin in the front of my house in the Cookeville area -- I'm hoping it's from one of these non venomous varieties that are helpful and beneficial.

I've got a non-venomous snake currently living in my dog house. I blocked off the entrance so the dogs can't get to it. Very happy to have the snake around. My dogs don't use the dog house as I am home 24/7 and the dogs stay in the house.

Don't kill the good snakes folks; they keep the destructive pests at bay.

Most venomous snakes are less, copperheads tend to be 2-3 feet.

Unless it's a very large rattlesnake odds are you have a nice healthy harmless rat snake, king snake, corn snake or something similar.

The big ones eat lots of rats. A big rat eating snake is a good neighbor.

Not sure though I’ve ever seen a pine snake looking at the picture. I suppose not if they are elusive. Still I see alot of snakes hiking and have not seen this serpent.
