Hello mbmouse.. Yes, of course. The product is Hardi backerboard also
produced by "Durock" as "cement backer board. I have used it in 3' x 5' x 1/2"
sheets and it is great product. It surely will stand up for a long time.
Thanks again.
You are solidly in tune with your area and I enjoy all the advice you and the other knowledgeable folks share with us.

Another reason for the lack of metal studs in residential is cost.

We took a class taught by an architect, and her husband (builder) came in the last night for a question/answer session. They both said it was a good idea, but has not caught on yet.

Unless the cost difference is obnoxious we are going to use them in our retirement home.

Hardiplank lap siding is a trademarked product of James Hardie Building Products. Other James Hardie products are Hardishingle, Hardipanel, Hardisoffit, Hardibacker, and then Hardipipe for below ground storm water drainage. All these products employ fiber-cement technology as far as I know. DUROCK Brand Cement Board, which I believe also employs fiber-cement technology, is a trademarked product of USG Corporation, which I believe is a Chicago-based company arising from the United States Gypsum Company. DUROCK is typically used as a backerboard for tile in "...partitions, walls, floors, soffits and ceilings in wet or dry areas."

Thanks

If you are open to the Knoxville Metro area, there are still some deals to be had, even in historic houses. $100k still only gets you a fixer, but $150 can get you a very nice house.

Best way to search for houses in Knoxville is the local MLS: Moderator cut: link not allowed

At this point I'm open to anywhere in E. TN that has a good future, Johnson City area is central to family and easier in that regard, Knoxville seems like a more thriving area and perhaps better for the future, I don't know. I need to get my butt there and start looking around some

I'm on pins and needles hoping that my houses make it all the way through closing here in WA state that way I can make my way there.

Default Hardie Building Products

Carpenter, it's terrible heavy, horrible dusty, and cuts best with special tools. But it holds paint wonderfully and gives you great peace of mind, both as a builder and a homeowner. Generics are available at the big box stores as well as the major wholesale suppliers. Have fun!
