I thought fireworks were not alowed in Greeneville, so why did I see them everywhere around me. I had neighbors putting them off I am talking about big ones. I am new here and thought they were not alowed so I didn't even buy any my kids were pretty ticked off see everyone doing them. I live in a pretty nice neighborhood and I think they are law abiding, I was afraid to do them if they were not allowed I didnt want to get a fine or something. Could anyone give me some insight on this thanks

Fireworks are illegal to sell here in Nashville (and to shoot off too, I think). It is always promptly ignored. It sounded like World War III around my house Thursday night.

People shooting fireworks is one of those things where I can both sides. I shot off a lot of fireworks back when I was younger and we were always responsible with them (it was also legal where I was). However, there are people who aren't. I can understand someone thinking the total fireworks ban is too heavy-handed; and I can also see someone else's point that fireworks are inherently dangerous.

My own opinion is that most communities could live with people shooting fireworks one day a year, except if it's one of those years were it's just so dry that shooting any fireworks is likely to cause problems. I think the ban should be decided on a year-to-year basis. JMHO.

As reported by the local news repeatedly, fireworks are illegal in Anderson, Blount and Knox counties. That doesn't mean peoplel won't/don't purchase and enjoy. I understand your children's disappointment but hopefully they did enjoy the neighbors' displays.

Did you move to Greeneville from somewhere where no one ever broke any laws?

It's also illegal to drive faster than the speed limit, not wear seat belts, or drink alcohol if you're under 21.

Last night my neighborhood here in Knoxville sounded like a war zone with all the fireworks going off. People bend the rules to suit their own needs, unfortunately. Not me, of course.

I grew up in the city limits of Greeneville and we usually did fireworks...although not big ones. One time in Middle School the police caught some friends and I. They just told us to go inside and not do it again. So, it is casually enforced I guess you would say. If you report it, they will usually do something about it.
