Hello Everyone,

After several discussions with my wife, Tennessee
is the State we chose to Relocate.

Which county in Tennesse, we don't know yet.
Hopefully by the input in this forum by our
members, we will decide.

Some info about us, to help in the process.

We own our Home with 9 acres in NY. ($350,000+)
We have one daughter going to High School next year.
We have 2 horses, 2 dogs and 20 chickens.

Me: I'm retiring from my job July of 2009 with a
great pension. (Job is No Issue for me)

Wife: She currently works for Walmart and
will like to continue to work for Walmart or
a similar store.

Want
1. Hot summers / Mild-Warm Winters
2. Walmart (less than 30 miles away)
3. Rural Area (Keep Horses, Chickens)
4. Gentleman Farm (20+ Acres)
5. High School (Soccer Program)
6. Low Crime Area

Don't Want
1. Cold Weather (Hate the Snow)
2. Near any Big Cities/Metro.
3. Dry County (I Need my Bud's )
4. To Live in a Mountain or Very Hilly Terrian

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

I have two horses now and will be getting some
more when I make the move. I love them and
enjoy the horsemanship hobby very much.

Please help us decide. Every suggestion will be
greatly appreciated.

If you know some of this info, Please
add it in you post.

I'm so glad I found this forum,

You didn't say how near to a big city is too near, so I'm going to post this for your consideration. Happy hunting!

Welcome to Fayette Academy
Somerville, TN 38068, Fayette county if I'm not mistaken
It would put you just about a thirty minute drive to the Wolfchase Galleria shopping area of Germantown, a suburb of Memphis. There is a Wal-mart, Target, Lowes, etc, etc. Don't know whether or not it's a dry county, sorry.
My knowledge of Somerville is second hand, from in-laws, so I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to answer any specific questions about it.

Martin
Paris
Selmer

What about Washington, Greene, Unicoi, Johnson, Sullivan counties etc... They're in NE Tennessee where there is some beautiful mountains... I would love to call NE Tennessee home someday. I would recommend NE for an area to look...

I'd prefer NE TN, too, but the OP said they don't want to live in a mountainous or hilly area.

DubbleT,

Too near is less than 30 miles.

I'm trying to avoid living in or near these Major Cities.
1. Memphis
2. Nashville
3. Chattanooga
4. Clarksville
5. Murfreesboro
6. Jackson
7. Johnson City
8. Kingsport
9. Franklin

These are secondary cities I'm considering not living in
or be near by also. But uncertain, I'll wait for the reponses.
1. Bartlett
2. Bristol
3. Cleveland
4. Collierville
5. Cookeville
6. Germantown
7. Hendersonville
8. Morristown
9. Oak Ridge

I live in Upsate NY now, and I'm over 75 miles to NYC.
So, if I have to drive to a nearby city and drive 75 miles
is ok. I work in NYC now and I do it everyday Mon-Fri.
Over 150 miles a day.

I lived in NY all my life and worked in NYC, so I really
want to stay away from large crowds and traffic.
I'm just looking to have a very beautiful and peaceful
place to live.

I'm just hoping that there's a Walmart nearby one of
these small quiet towns for the wife. I don't want to
put her through what I'm going through now. Traveling
long distances back and forth to work. It really takes a
toll on you.

Thanks for the clarification, Pat5725.

Given your parameters, I stick with my recommendations:

Bolivar
Dyersburg
Lexington
Martin
Paris
Selmer

Good luck!

Given the OPs desires, this is a great list. i live out in the country [horse country] between Bolivar and Whiteville. We are 55 miles from Wolfchase and 15 miles from Fayette Academy, which is a great high school. The OP would be wise to look at Hardeman County. You still get alot for the $$. And we will certainly give him all the HOT summers he wants!

If it helps your search at all, there is a WalMart in each of the west TN towns on JMT's list. There are also other WalMart's around as well, so you're almost certain to be pretty close to on anywhere in this part of the state.

If you're really looking for a rural area, you might also check out smaller towns east of Memphis/Germantown/Collierville such as Williston, Moscow, Lagrange, Grand Junction and Ramer. Those are all along Highway 57 (Williston is a little north of it) between Memphis and Selmer.
