Couldn't find the thread that i originally started about wood working but someone asked me to post a pic of my finished lamps so here they are from what i started with to what i finished with. This is my first attempt at doing any kine of wood work like this. I think for a beginner i did pretty good.

Beautiful lamps!!! You did a beautiful job! It sure looks like you've been doing this for a long time. Did the wood come from your property near Newport?

That oak sure does look like cedar, though...

Yes the wood did come from out lot. we have manyBig Cedar trees on our property but unfortuneately some will have to come down when we build. It is Red Cedar. I love the smell of it and also how it changes bright red in color when it gets wet. I'm going to try to make our own Log Bed frame next but will have to wait until we go back up in October to get the wood. The trees may have to come down but i'll put them to good use for our home. I'm sending these off to my family to have. I can't believe something so simple to make sells for $100 or $200 which i've seen online.

Now your cat will use them as scratching posts. ;-)

Well, just for future reference . . . Tennessee is full of red oaks (that really is a species). I must have ten-thousand on my place in Montgomery County.

Hey, we love the trees of Tennessee. We'll be glad to tell you about every different kind.
