Warriors Path would be my suggestion if you are coming to look at Tri-Cities due to it's location. Roan Mountain is nice, but it will take you almost an hour to get to Johnson City from the park. Warriors path, about 20 minutes and it is already in Kingsport and close to Bristol.

I have no idea who the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration and the National Recreation and Park Association are, but they just named Tennessee's state parks system as the best in the country:
