"Went to Asheville, NC this Spring and the size of the city and the traffic scared me. Plus, in Asheville I saw more overaged hippies in one week than the entire 11 years I've lived in MD."

I went to Asheville in March from my home in Texas. I was probably one of those "overaged hippies" that you saw. LOL

Thank you for the answer, I appreciate it! I will be in the area nov 6 thru the 12th and I'll be looking for property. I'll check the realtor.com url. That area from Chattanooga to Greenville from what I've seen is the area I'm interested in the most. My son is relocating to Nashville from Tx. the first of november and we will be looking together. I moved from Vermont to Fla. in 1988 because of my alergies and they improved greatly.Just don't want to go thru that again, lol.

Grey hair, bald except for pony tail, sandals, preachy about organic foods, never met a wine and cheese place you didn't like, still wears/makes the beads, the more art galleries the better, non-violent except when it comes to smokers, thinks drum circles are (insert superlative here), chews people's ears off about the environment, probably made some kind of pottery at least once, ...hey, wait a minute, you're from Texas, kwitcherkiddin'.

I loved the Dallas burbs. It's just too hot in the summer, there, for me.

Will anyone be left in Florida in a few years? LOL The ones left can have it! Since I can retire, hubby and I are relocating. He is looking to transfer to a Home Depot. Do Washington or Greene Counties have a nearby Home Depot? I mean, nearby enough to drive during the Winter, during possible snowy/icy conditions? We are looking to move towards the mountains. Any info can help. And about the occasional flooding..... is Flood Insurance available?

I know in Johnson City (Washington County) there is a Home Depot close off the interstate. It's the State of Franklin exit (not sure of the exit #). So it should be easy to get to if from where you live getting to the interstate is easy- since the interstates usually get cleared first.

Insanesmooch told you about the Home Depot, there is also a Lowe's on State of Franklin Rd as well........I frequent both often hahahahha. Flood insurance is available, but very few people need it. I would say a small percetage of homes in all of east TN are in a flood zone. There are some flooding issues in South Greene Co, in the Camp creek, horse creek areas, those are the only ones off the top of my head I can recall right now.
As for montainouse, do you want in the mountains, like house on the side, or just see them?
