Preacher's purpose can be stated simply: 'Love one another'

Charlie Daniels began his relationship with "Brother Bob" by slaughtering one of his beef cattle to help the good Rev feed Wilson County's hungry.

"I just believe in what he does and try to help him out a little. He's one who walks the walk. He don't just talk the talk," says the music legend who has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Ringo Starr and Billy Graham.

Daniels says he's just glad he's able to help Brother Bob Evans' Joseph Storehouse food ministry on Southeast Tater Peeler Road in Lebanon. "Brother Bob's a very spiritual man who tries to live as close to the teachings of Christ as he can. And this food ministry is a big part of him."

It took Evans a few conversations with God to figure out his purpose in life, but once he did, he turned his life over to feeding the poor.

He's busiest the last Thursday and Saturday of each month, when he distributes at least $30,000 in food and essentials to about 300 folks who come to the brown industrial building that houses his food ministry. "We give them a huge, double-wheeled wheelbarrow, filled with about $100-$140" worth.

He also preaches at Love's Way Community Church, which meets in a chapel inside the building.

Joseph Storehouse shares its wares with smaller food ministries in White, Smith, Rutherford, Trousdale and Putnam counties.

Evans didn't start out as a missionary. For about 20 years, he ran Town and Country Home Furnishings in Lebanon. He began to think maybe he had a higher purpose when "the Lord appeared to me on Dec. 24, 1976. I was in my shorts, shaving. He said 'Love one another. Love one another. Love one another.' ''
