I think he's being squeezed. His original assessment about unemployment benefits was correct. He was looking for a job in the Obama administration and they went with someone else. Maybe he got the message. Since term limits will kick in, he'll be looking for a job soon and probably thinks it's not a good idea, for his personal future, to shun the money.

too bad he caved under pressure, he's right, taking short term money but being on the hook long term for the new beneficiaries. Oh well, might as well take the money, the economies going to crater anyway and in 2 years it won't matter.

Great place to visit. having done business there for 19 years I can tell you the taxes and the dole make business and living there tough.
In the UK the pound is worth more than the dollar, yet the average pay is the same as ours, thus less to spend on necessities. Several large accounts have closed, the employees are unemployed and no new jobs open. Thus welfare for everyone, with a low standard of living and higher taxes on business and the ones still working. This was during good times, it is much worse now.
