Those numbers are all over the place.

2010 Census *OFFICIAL*
1 - Shelby - 927,644
2 - Davidson - 626,681
3 - Knox - 432,226
4 - Hamilton - 336,463
5 - Rutherford - 262,604
6 - Williamson - 183,182
7 - Montgomery - 172,331
8 - Sumner - 160,645
9 - Sullivan - 156,823
10 - Blount - 123,010
11 - Washington - 122,979
12 - Wilson - 113,993

2016 Census Estimates
1 - Shelby - 934,603
2 - Davidson - 684,410
3 - Knox - 456,132
4 - Hamilton - 357,738
5 - Rutherford - 308,251
6 - Williamson - 219,107
7 - Montgomery - 195,734
8 - Sumner - 180,063
9 - Sullivan - 156,667
10 - Wilson - 132,781
11 - Blount - 127,670
12 - Washington - 126,440

2020 TACIR Projections (obviously Tennessee hasn't shed the Meth Capital label yet)
1 - Shelby - 875,972
2 - Davidson - 736,606
3 - Knox - 471,912
4 - Rutherford - 347,984
5 - Hamilton - 328,290
6 - Williamson - 241,933
7 - Sumner - 190,388
8 - Montgomery - 167,895
9 - Blount - 151,118
10 - Wilson - 136,792
NA - Sullivan - Obviously less than 136,792

Differences between TACIR 2020 and Census 2016:
Shelby (-58,631)
Davidson +52,196
Knox +15,780
Rutherford +39,733
Hamilton (-29,448)
Williamson +22,826
Sumner +10,325
Montgomery (-27,839)
Blount +23,448
Wilson +4,011
Sullivan (-19,875+)
Washington (unknown)

Some of the positive numbers make sense (Davidson a bit high -- Rutherford plausible -- Williamson low)...but most of these are wayyyy off. Especially Hamilton. Do you honestly think Hamilton County will be smaller in 2020 than it was in 2010?

Edit:
I found the source for this. This research was done in June 2009. 2009! And the DNJ ran a story in December 2017 on this? All parties should be ashamed here. TACIR for having crap projections, the DNJ for using ancient numbers, Shakeesha for posting a 3 month old article, and me, for taking time to respond to this horse crap.

The new population ranking means more money for Rutherford County. The numbers for Lavergne and Murfreesboro's special censuses should be released later this year. It will be interesting to see the official numbers in a couple of years and how some cities will move up in rankings while others slide down.
