Does any one know of any small liberal towns in or around Middle TN. We currently live in Nashville and are looking for a smaller town. We're thinking a population of less than 10k but could go larger for a great place. The only issue is that we need to stay within an hour and 20mins of Nashville for work.

Thanks!

I'm not aware of any even vaguely liberal smaller towns in TN. The larger cities usually average more Democratic votes, but in my experience even they aren't exactly liberal around here.

How about Al Gore's "home town" of Carthage?

Thanks. If you think of anywhere please let me know. As of now I think we may be considering moving to the farm in Summertown or somewhere around that area.

I think "small town" and "liberal" are mutually excluding terms in Tennessee.

While not liberal per se, you might check some of the smaller places in Tennessee with colleges---their populations may have a few more of the liberal college types...but not enough to, IMO, to make the town "liberal".

What characteristics would make a town qualify as "liberal"?

You know--shiny happy people holding hands, the sun shining, all the lawns mowed with Obama signs in them, everyone multicultural and pc to the max...

That's a frequent question I see on city-data that's often made we wonder the same thing. I always think of the old '60s communes when I hear that...they worked well.

We're looking for a place with a highly educated population, eco-friendly, socially progressive, a natural foods store in town would be nice, and great schools.

Another Elitist statement thinking highly educated individuals are all progressive liberals? Unbelievable. Have you ever considered commuting from the left coast? I hear they have highly educated eco-friendly, socially progressive BANKRUPT towns there. Just a thought.

Feelings aside about elitism, etc., a town I just thought of not too far from my location that might fit your description is Sewanee, TN, in Franklin Co.

Not sure about the natural foods store. Schools are public, with the exception of an elite, expensive St. Andrews Academy...

The hour 20 may be pushing it, but it's close...I've made Winchester to Nashville in a hour, but I wouldn't recommend that, certainly not on a regular basis.
