Finally tried it- I have to admit I like their sweet tea and while I dont eat red meat, they have a good "big chicken sandwich". Next I will have to find some original BBQ- (Haven't found any yet in Johnson City!)

Thanks everyone!

I like Pal's too. Their fries are excellent. I haven't been able to find a Pal's in Knoxville yet (any suggestions, anyone?) and am in withdrawal.

If you're looking for good barbecue, try Stan's in Greeneville, beside Goodwill/Hardee's and across the highway from Ryan's.

Oh, if you're in Johnson City, you should also look up Cootie Brown's for lunch sometime. I love it, so eclectic!

Is Stan's independently owned? Is it located off Market St?

Yes- Cootie Browns has really good pizza with thin crust- excellent!

Stan's is independent, has been in the same location for as far as I can remember (though they built a new building).

It's in Greeneville, right on the 11-E (Andrew Johnson Hwy). There is no Market St. in Greene, as far as I know...

Sunny,
According to hubby ( I don't care for BBQ myself) you need to try the Red Pig ( I like there salads!) it is behind Blockbuster off Roan St and Sunset, it's in front of Kroger. Also try to Firehouse Restaurant on Walnut near the university.

I grew up on Pal's in Greeneville. I love their sweet tea - and you get a huge 32oz for under a $1.00. Can't find that many other places these days.

Me too. If only Pals weren't in the Commons... I want one of those NEAT Pal's buildings like in Jonesborough!

No I haven't tried Picasso's yet. Where are they? They are going to being doing a lot with the Depot area and soon. Did you see about the new downtown loft condo's? They look SOOO nice! I think it has taken them a while, but it looks like downtown JC is starting to really get on the ball with revitalizing. Heading down there later today for a meeting actually, guess I'll bring the camera a long and if it's not to cold get some downtown pics to post.
