I was trying to find a nice area ( other than boat launch ramp areas) Holston River is off of Bristol Hwy- but there seems to be all residential- so no way to get to the water. Does anyone know any nice areas in Washington or Sullivan County?

Thanks in advance!.

The water off of the Bristol Hwy is Boone Lake. You may want to go to Winged Deer Park. They have a really nice huge grassy area that is great for picnics and a great walkway and gazebo out over the water, even though is close to the road, it is nice. You could also go south east to Elizabethton to Watugga lake, follow signs to Dow River, there are several picnic areas through there and several park areas around that lake. There is also Warriors Path State park in Colonial heights area of Kingsport that is a great place for a picnic by the water. There is also Netherland Inn Rd in Kingsport that is right on the Holston and there is a really nice Green Belt with picnic tables right on the river. There is a place called Laurel park in Carter County too that is more in the woods but has water that is a great place for a picnic. Shoot, can't remember the road name it is off of, but will ask hubby and get back with you if interested?
