Well this took place tonight in NE PA but I thought I'd share it with my NE TN forum friends since we've discussed wildlife in NE TN on a few occasions.
We don't eat fast food very often but wanted to get a quick lite bite to eat on our way to Target, so we pulled into a McDonald's in the town of Enyon, right on the rte 6 highway. Within a minute we spotted a black bear walking along the retaining wall, headed straight for the dumpsters. We watched him eat right from the first dumpster. At this point a few cars were watching him but he was unphased and went right to the second dumpster. We thought he was going to fall in, he stretched so far into the dumpster. Turns out he was pulling out a large, full garbage bag, which he promptly carried in his mouth as he made his way up the hill into the woods (guess he wanted takeout after all
Now we see bear occasionally where we live, which is somewhat rural, but this was in a urban area right off of a highway. He definitely knew right where to go, so you could tell this wasn't his first visit to McDonald's. There's a Burger King and KFC on this strip as well, so he probably has a pretty nice buffet for himself

That's cute. We see a bit of that in Knox County and a lot in the Smoky Mountain area. There are a lot of bear sightings at restaurants and hotel dumpsters. Last year, the sightings were up alot.

Talking Bear

With a bear around a dumpster the store needs to keep the lid closed. It may look cute but it can be very dangerous. Bears come down from the mountains here in Albuquerque looking for food. It is a dangerous thing for both the bears and humans. The city must do everything they can to keep the mountain creatures in the mountains. If there is not enough snow and rain then there isn't enough food and that is when they enter the city. But, we can't fool with nature and must try our best to keep them where they belong. The more they enter the city, the more likely there will be an attack on humans. So prevent the bears from being killed and us humans by bear-proffing trash containers etc.

Oh, I can tell you a lot of stories about bears in the area. In ever single instance the bear turned out to be far more intelligent than the humans.
