The folks who waited on us, both at the ski desk and @ Bubba's were VERY nice and provided excellent customer service. It just seemed weird as we experienced the exact same thing in Panama City Beach last year. I wonder if the locals resent them as surely even in those towns there are employment issues.

Anywhoo We're off to ski next weekend in Mentone Alabama of all places if the weather holds out. "SkiBama" ya'll!

We got there around 10:00-10:30am but didn't get our until around 12:30-1:00 and went right out tubing, didn't have any problem at all. Unless they changed it since then. We had a little delay in the beginning because it had warmed up some and the snow was starting to get slushy. But it cooled back down and they went out and fixed the tubing area. was fine the rest of the day. They have a website that gives alot of info and a phone # too. I understand that they are open at night too. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Beech Mountain in NC gets a lot of snow. My parents live there and my sister and her family and my son are all bunking with her. The ski shops opened a while back and are in full swing already. Very neat little town up there. Still has a small town feel, but all the comforts of a bigger ski community. Neat place with some phenomenal views and very nice people!

Average annual snowfall for a few mountains:
Clingmans Dome (TN): 65"
Beech Mountain (NC): 80"
Roan Mountain (TN/NC) & Mount LeConte (TN): 100"
Mount Mitchell (NC): 104"

Access by vehicle to those places in the winter can be tricky or impossible (due to road closures), depending on the weather.

For (almost) guaranteed deep, natural snow in late Feb., I recommend heading farther north to West Virginia. Snowshoe Mountain gets about 180" of white stuff annually and Timberline about 200".
