Today there was an headline article on the internet about 7 states with no income tax:

Alaska
Florida
Nevada
So Dakota
Texas
Washington
Wyoming

I was so surprised that Tennessee wasn't on that list.

Quiet.....it's a secret......

Seven states have no state income tax: Alaska, Florida, Nevada, South Dakota, Texas, Washington and Wyoming. Two others, New Hampshire and Tennessee, tax only dividend and interest income.

When I first saw the article, I thought oh no. Then when I read it, I was like, TN should be listed but isn't. Maybe that is a good thing. I won't say a word, Shhhhhhh.

It's OK. The sales tax more than makes up for it!

Let us consider those other states-

Alaska - Beautiful country, but way too cold & isolated
Florida - The sooner I get out of here, the better.
Nevada - Las Vegas (Not), Lake Tahoe is beautiful, but way too expensive
South Dakota - Huh??
Texas - Would be a consideration, but way too big to isolate one spot
Washington - Weather is horrible
Wyoming - See Washington

I think I'll pay Tennessee the taxes on interest & dividends...

Well I don't have any of those so I don't have to worry about that.
Where in Fla are you? If you don't mind me asking.

OMGosh, you are a better person than I. I couldn't do that. I avoid going down that way as much as possible. Good luck to you.
We live in Palm Springs,FL and it's getting rough here too. Our street is still good but it's getting bad all around us. And everythign is getting so expensive around here, that you can't retire here unless you have money. I'll be glad when we can move to TN. Soon I hope.

And I'll add that New Hampshire has crazy property tax and good luck heating your house without taking out a second mortgage. My mother once got a heating bill for one month and it was $900. That's one lady that watches television about one hour a day and doesn't own a microwave. That's in Massachusetts, but same deal.

You couldn't pay me to move out of Tennessee. It's the only place I've lived in where my money grows, no matter what happens. Amazing.

Nice post, as3369. It's been over four years since I lived in Florida. They can have it.
