You're right - kinda sounds familiar, like back in the 1860's with the War of Northern Aggression. State's Rights is a hard and fast Constitutional issue that should not get messed with. But again, people with agenda's get their greedy noses in where they shouldn't, and other's look the other way. And in the meantime, our Constitutional Rights are slowly getting chipped away.

Unexpected, huh - Happyappy and I agreeing on something?

I'm a liberal too, but not by most definitions in most of the political forums. It's a frequent topic. It came up in a discussion about a week ago. I mentioned that neoconservatives practice neoliberalism and that that ought to make their circuits smoke! It ended the thread. I guess there must have been several neocons in there and they went away for a reboot.

The bad thing is that people these days seem to vote for people they see on TV. Arnold Schwarzenegger got voted in as our 'govna' a few years back. I just read an article on Yahoo and one Senator from CA said that he thought Thompson would be a good thing because people would automatically think he's a good guy " because he puts bad people away on TV every night" I know he was kidding, but that really isn't that far from the truth.

One thing... if he was made president, he better not do anything dumb and give Tennesseans a bad name.

It would take a lot more discussion, of course, but I have a feeling we might agree on quite a lot. I might be more moderate in general, though.

Yea, I'll buy that hehehehehe
I see no reason to move this thread unless it gets all heated and argumentative (as political threads seem to) it can stay.
Then again I haven't read past the above post yet, two pages back so I'll keep reading and as long as it stays friendly and includes TN in the topic, we are good.

I know, she is such a troll! I'm gonna go boot her off of here

umm...back on topic now (geesh, I might have to edit my own post here!)
Personally, I think it isn't near as important who sits in the oval office as much as who is sitting behind him, with him and who is telling him what to say and do. Also think it is more important to watch and vote for who is wanting into the house and senate and keeping that balance. Until we get the line item veto, the guy in the oval office is mostly for looks anyway.
That being said, I am not one to get into political conversations.......that is why I hide in the TN mountains, I don't have to hehehehehhe (just kidding on that last one folks)

For a guy who's just there for looks, W sure has done a lot of damage! That said, I get your point. Our checks and balances seem to be lacking...

IF hiknapster goes, I go

Tennessee in the topic. Yeah, I know, I'm a smartass.
