When you find them please let me know. All onion bagels seem to have left the state of Tennessee. We can't even find a bad one.

I vote for Panera or Atlanta Bread Company. It would be helpful to list the city/area you are in so we could be of more assistance.

Where are you looking for bagels? I'm in E TN, so I'll speak from that perspective.

IMO, if you think Panera has good bagels, we are not talking about the same thing! To me, a real bagel has substance and good chew. It also shouldn't be loaded with preservatives.

There is an okay bagel shop in Oak Ridge (on the turnpike); to me, these are far better in substance than the "Best Bagels in Town" shop in Knoxville on Kingston Pike.

I have actually brought bagels back from North Carolina when I travel there. That does give you some indication my own desperation! (aka these bagels are better than what I find in my area, but still not NY quality)

Panera doesn't have onion bagels or even egg. I sent my husband down to get egg bagels and she acted like a horn had suddenly grown out of his head. Silly girl. She doesn't realize that long before there were bagels with cranberries and assorted other things stuck in them for charity or amusement there were egg bagels. And onion bagels.

But I do think they are around somewhere. It would depend on where you live, I suspect.

Maybe she grew up in east TN? I did, and I have no idea what an onion bagel is. Or an egg bagel. Give me a biscuit, damn it.

I'd like to know where the good sourdough english muffins are...every now and then I'll find a place with them, but not often.

Oh, I'm sure she had no idea. I just find it funny that we got all these fancy stuff in our bagels now, and the originals are no where to be found. I know, I can go to NYC and look for them. At least everyone was polite. Thank you.

It falls under the category of "It can't hurt to ask." I can survive without ever seeing an egg bagel again, though. Really.

But I googled "onion bagel TN" and got some hits. Mostly in the Memphis and Nashville areas.

But the OP had this urge and hasn't been back since. Maybe they found said bagel and are enjoying it. Or brushing their teeth.

Best bagels I ever had were in... Florida.
Some guy from somewhere up in the northeast opened a bagel shop in Florida close to where I worked. Got me hooked on Dr. Browns soda and onion bagel sandwiches. Yummmm.
Might have to check this place out. //www.city-data.com/tn-restaura...L-COMPANY.html
(When did CD start with the restaurants? They have all kinds of info I didn't know about! )
