Well, the TN governing authorities could officially declare TN a sanctuary state and TN'ans can see how those chips fall.

It would seem to be a de facto sanctuary state as it is...

I am all for detaining and returning illegal immigrants that are here in the US. I also think it's a good idea for US citizens to carry an ID/license and non-citizens here legally to carry their paperwork.

However, I don't think Tennessee would be well-served by legislation that charges officers to use race or ethnicity as a factor in determining whether to investigate the documentation status of someone. That smacks of elitism. I realize the situation is very, very bad in border towns and border states. The drug cartels now own the coyotes, for God's sake. Something HAS to be done soon, and it's going to take the combined efforts of the United States and Mexico. This is not the solution, not at all. The Arizona bill will be looked back on as a farce and an embarrassment.

I dont think anyone is suggesting this for Tennessee nor is that what the Arizona bill is about. Personally, I hope TN does pass a similar bill. My brother is an officer and as it stands when he stops/arrests someone and believes them to be illegal he can NOT check their legal status.
