Those people who could afford a Tesla before the pandemic can still likely afford one today. Hell, they may be better positioned to afford one today as they are likely spending money on fewer things by working from home, etc.
I can certainly afford to buy my 2nd Tesla today because before the pandemic I was spending about $5k/yr on mass transit just to drive myself to the train station and park the car. Right now I'm working from home and having an extra $600/month in my pocket. I can easily lease another Tesla just for fun and costs almost nothing to me to power it.
