Perhaps the OP is interested in East Texas because it's a short drive to his home in Mississippi - it's also similar in climate to most of Mississippi. Just a guess.....

And yes, Tyler is not Nashville, but I bet you will like it. Most people do, negetive post are the posts from people who mostly haven't lived here or that wanted Tyler to be "like home", wanted to change Tyler into something it is not. So THEY don't like it. Give it a try.
I hope you didn't read my post as anti-Tyler. I lived there for three years around the turn of the century. Neat little place for a family, terrible little place for a single dude.

Surely you agree about East Texas being different?

I think you would enjoy living in the Tyler area. My wife and I lived in Nashville for a couple of years, lived in east Texas for about two years, and I think they are very similar in some ways (mostly conservative, laid-back atmosphere, people). Some areas around Tyler you could check out would be Longview and Lindale.

Wow, I never thought I would get this many responses. You all have really been a lot of help. GayleTx was right; I was thinking about east Texas because it is not that far from home. I'm not really concerned about the school districts right now because my wife and I don't have children. We just want to live somewhere we can make a better salary to get our lives started and the loans paid off. Then we will be able to move somewhere the pay is lower but the living is nicer, like Dallas. Thank you all A LOT for your time! I am going to research every one of these towns mentioned!
