Dallas, because of the Cowboys and many of the people.

Dallas, MAY be shown on more weather maps because of the more central location in the country than Houston being on the coast, not because of the approximate 10% difference in metro population. imo

Because NOLA has greater influence, and is very well known, maybe even moreso than Houston, I mean what major city represents LA,MS, and AL, NOLA, of course. NOLA represents the entire central gulf coast, and beyond. Whereas, when choosing 1 city to represent TX/OK, who are you going to choose, either Dallas or Houston, and of course you go with the more well known one to best represent a region, Dallas.

Your not just going to have the top 10-15 populated metros in weathermaps, your going to have the ones that most easily represent their region, reguardless of size.

Put Fox News on sometime and you will be really perplexed. On their weather map, they have no Houston but do have Dallas and... Austin(!)

So, not only does being the largest city in the state apparently not matter, but being the city in the state that has the most visitors doesn't seem to matter either. Ridiculous...

It's sort of a toss-up between Dallas and Austin. 10+ years ago I would have said Dallas, but the last several years it's been Austin. But unlike Dallas' case, the national media throws fuel on Austin's self-promotion fire, and seems to just forget or ignore that fact that it's still in Texas -- complete with the same insane summer heat, similar sprawl, strip malls, and lack of public transit held as such a fault in the other major Texas cities.

I didn't. Nor did several others.

The whole "keep Austin weird" has been commercialized beyond being anything genuine now, and seems now to serve more the purpose of being a poser-magnet.

As far as Dallas, I don't think it matters where people are from; It's rather well-known and obvious that Dallas has long been very concerned with its image.

Again guys, your missing the point on the weather map stuff, Dallas represents a MORE CENTRALLY located AREA, geographically speaking, than Houston If your going to just put one town on a map including New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Dallas, it seems would be the one chosen?
