I am a senior looking for a medium size or large town about an hours drive (or less) from North Houston where my son lives. The problem is I have severe health reactions to fluoride. I live near Seattle now and have to have water delivered for drinking and cooking. I would really like to live normally again. Any suggestions?

Here's a list of Texas water systems that fluoridate their water supplies:

International Anti-Fluoridation Database

I didn't see any cities of the size you desire in the areas where you are looking that are less than an hour from north Houston. I could easily be missing some, though. Hope the list I linked helps, though.

I would jump all over Bryan / College Station. What a great midsize town with a decent commute to North Houston.

And this is coming from a UT Austin Grad - locals will know what I mean.

Yeah I know nothing about the fluoride - but Bryan/College Station or Huntsville would seem obvious choices if you wanted to be accessible to north Houston but away from the city.

Brenham is not quite as large (about 14K population) - but might also be worth checking out.

I suggest looking for a place that has its own well. Many rural and semi-rural areas outside cities in Texas rely on individual wells for water. I believe this water should be flouride free. You always need to have the well water tested for other substances - but that is easy to do.

I live in Spicewood, just outside Austin, and my water comes from a well. It is excellent (if hard) water.

I found a town called Mt Pleasant, Tx. They say no added fluoride. Does anyone know the area? It seems to have some senior population. I would like to live without a car. I have lived here near Seattle without a car for everyday living, ( except on occasions when needed) for six years. I really like walking doing some grocery shopping and stopping for coffe or lunch with other seniors. Quiet life but not too boring. Thanks for the help

I looked at a map and see that Mt Pleasant is way too far north, oh well. I'll keep looking.

As far as I know, most (if not all) of the towns between Houston and Austin are really, really small. Hence, living without a car would not be too comfortable as the distance between places is not small.

Oh, by the way, I used to live in Bellevue. :P

College Station and Brenham both add fluoride. The only place I've found is Elgin City, just out of Austin. Thats a longer distance than I want. I hope Austin foes win the battle there. Maybe it will spread to other cities. I don't think there is any use looking anymore in that direction. It's true all of the towns are really small. Forty years ago I might have liked that but not now. I may just buy a couple of reverse osmosis machines and go ahead and move to a bigger city. Remember people even if you don't drink it you absorb the chemicals through the skin. Don't boil it. Make those showers fast and not too hot. That's from one who knows. Just in case I might decide to go further out, if you know about Elgin City any info is appreciated. Thanks again Bellvue is big $$$$$$ now.
