What is the strategy of Texas and Texas cities for the electric cars ? I'm a real supporter of this kind of car, it's the future and it's a great thing to eliminate the dependance to oil !
I know you can have tax credits from Feds (7000$) and in California too (5000$ + 7000$ from feds), but in Texas ? In Houston or Austin ?

If you have any friends with big fuel inefficient cars ask them about getting rid of their big suv's and pickup trucks in favor of a smaller more fuel efficient car say a 40+mpg Toyota Yaris as an example and you'll probably find out real quick why electric cars arent going to sell well in Texas.

For the moment yeah, but the demand of oil will increase in the future, and oil reserves are limited, prices will rise sharply..After that people will want electric cars, mostly in Texas because metro areas are huge in this state.
The light rail will boom too.

It's the good thing because the last few years, the US spent $700 billion to buy oil to foreign countries EACH year ! With that, hundreds of billions will be saved, to reduce deficits, to diminish taxes and to invest in infrastructures.
California is the leader for the moment but I can see a big potential in Texas, where cities and metro areas are larger !

!
Finite oil and how it was formed is still a theory, another theory is the Abiotic theory.

Abiotic Oil -- Reserves Replenished by Process in Earth's Mantle?

With Earths daily need for a staggering 90 million barrels of oil per day i sometimes wonder about the feasibility of the fossil fuel theory, could dead organic life account for the oceans of oil deep within the Earths crust?
May or may not be a relevant theory but if true you could see why the oil companies wouldnt want to back the theory.

Renaud,

I have a challange for you:

Buy American (Tesla) and then get a license plate similiar to the one below. Then drive around Texas, or even better, Houston.

I would honestly be very curious to hear all the comments and stories you would get from a car like this.

The Tesla is just too expensive. First of all, if you want a car of this style - an electric one will not do. Second, this car is worthless for everyday use. It's an expensive, looks-great, toy. Tesla needed to make one that is functional for the everyday person, not the elite.

That post was somewhat tongue in cheek....

Of course he could wait to 2012/13 and try the Tesla S. A 5 year NPV (when factoring savings on gas) of the car puts that car somewhere around 40,000 grand. Still a lot though
