I certainly do not mean to offend anyone, however, I was reading another post about Brownville, Tx., where a single nurse had fears about moving to in order to work in a hospital. There was a reply about Texas being Ole Mexico, over-run rampant with illegals. I keep hearing this is a problem in Texas, Arizona, California and the Carolinas. I quess my question is why aren't the residents demanding something be done. I don't have a problem with legal immigrants who paid alot of money and spent alot of time coming to our Country the legal way. I am just sickened that it is allowed to happen with illegals.

Personally, Alaska, I agree with you on the subject, and I think many if not most Texans do. I'd like to see legislation passed as was in Oklahoma recently. I think one of the reasons this hasn't happened is that BECAUSE of the rapidly changing demographics. That is to say, fear of alienating a potential large voting bloc. ALSO, the always ever present fact that money is involved. Illegal labor is cheap labor and profit...and thre are many in business and trade who, while they may personally lament what is happening, also don't want to give up the money to be made by hiring help at cheap prices. Human nature, I guess...*sighs*

Yes Tex I agree with you but so sad is the fact that this will be the downfall of our country. I know it's a touchy subject with our legislators and some people. I have no malice for anyone but when I see our country being destroyed and taken over by illegals I just wanna scream. Also, Pennsylvania has a town where the Mayor is keeping close watch to keep them out. If I ever relocate back down to the lower 48 I will double check where I am going in hopes of not having to deal with them. Have a great day.

Well, for one it's hard to tell who is legal and who isn't just by looking. Mom may be illegal, but husband is legal, oldest child might be illegal but next 2 kids are legal.

Also, a lot of employers want the illegals here because they are good workers and they take all of the lowest level jobs from landscaping, to construction to fast food to other restaurant work to country clubs, babysitting, maid work. They are cheaper, but I have seen illegals make $14-15/hr doing landscaping. Some families can't afford daycare but can afford a $600 month illegal to watch their 3 kids.

Third, there are just so many of them. Tons. I mean LOTS. LOTS and LOTS.

That is a shame and not the way I want to live.

Well, history has a way of repeating itself (somebody smart once said first as tragedy then as farce) and one better believe that the cheap labor and good profits are going to come back around to haunt. The birds are coming home to roost, so to speak.

Just one question, Alaskapat: Are you planning to move here anytime soon or are you just curious?

I agree it's a problem here as well, although not quite as bad as California, L.A especially and Southern Cali. We do all our own work and don't hire them for anything. Excepting the fact that our house was built by them, that is. And if I could have had a say in that (it was a spec house) I would have. Disagree with the opinion that they do jobs we won't. They do them because they'll work for sub par wages, and legal citizens won't.

But living here in Texas, you won't find them as confrontational as the ones you will in some cities. Another thing about South Texas, many of them aren't illegal and their families have been here forever. South Texas just has so much Spanish/Mexican culture ensconsed and one of the things I like about the flavor of Texas. You'll find lots of native, legal hispanics around the State that don't like the illegal issue.

Yep. A lot of them have been here (their families, that is) longer than, or at least as long as, most of the rest of us. That's something a lot of people tend to forget. You can't assume that someone is illegal, or a latecomer, based on ethnicity.
