Hello Texans!

In October, I'm going on a road trip from Phoenix, AZ to Tulsa, OK. Amarillo is going to be my stop for the night. I've researched a few hotels, but a lot of them seem pretty shady

Anyone have any recomendations on good hotels in the $50-$100/night range? Anything off I-40 would be ideal

Thanks!

I've stayed at almost all of them and the only one I've ever been uncomfortable with was the Quality Inn at I-40 and Ross Osage. It was pretty rundown and sketchy. The area on the west side of town by the mall and medical center seems to be a little nicer...

You may not find a room in the nicer hotels for much less than $100....the ones on the west end of town are all relatively new and stay pretty full year round....they are located near the shopping/dining/medical district and are not far from the university at Canyon, as well as being on the heavily-traveled I-40.

I'm fine with hotel chains, it's just the ones I've looked up look pretty scary. Also, I might be traveling with a small dog, so that'll limit my places, too. Is $100 really too little? I've never paid more than $70/night for even REALLY nice hotels, anywhere.

If you'll be there before 6pm (or whatever cutoff is) book a couple of hotels and when you get to town cancel the ones you don't want.

Now that school is starting I'd bet they won't be that crowded and you should have some good ones to chose.

Imho opinion, most of the hotels in Amarillo are overpriced and run down. I agree the Best Western on I 40 was okay. I would stay there again.

The better motels are at the Coulter Road exit in West Amarillo. I have stayed in that area for as little as $79. Go on Priceline.com and bid 75.00 in that area and see what they give you.

Or go to Expedia.com and see what they offer in the Coulter Road/I-40 area.

When we moved here in 2002 we stayed 3 nights at the Best Western Amarillo Inn at I-40 and Coulter while we closed on the house and waited for the movers to catch up
We had our 70lb std poodle with us and it was a nice place to stay
