Waco’s historic ALICO building and the American Amicable Insurance Company are both celebrating their 100 year anniversary. The iconic structure has special meaning for many Wacoans, many of whom have shared their story on the memorial website, www.100alicostories.com.
To read their stories and share some of your own, visit the site and learn about the history of ALICO. There will also be a 30-minute documentary style TV special on KCENHD (Channel 6 News).
Tune in to learn about the building’s architecture and how it has been able to stand the test of time and nature, the history of the company it’s named after and the innovative features that the building was equipped with in 1910.
The ALICO building is 22 stories and stands 246 feet tall. Construction began in August of 1910 and was complete within a year.
The building and its design were groundbreaking, the height alone making it the tallest building West of the Mississippi and South of the Mason-Dixon line.
The easily-recognizable structure has remained an unchanging part of the Waco skyline for a century. We invite you to take part in the sharing of 100 stories to celebrate this exciting anniversary!
