Oh my. With some of these descriptions, I'm pleased to say that I'm not a "Texas girl".

Fake tan - fake French manicure nails - hair that looks overly processed/highlighted - wears whatever brand of jeans is the top seller at the local western wear store - obnoxious, blingy Yellow Box flip-flops (no matter what the temperature outside) - over-the-top, huge sterling silver jewelry (big crosses are the current look) - huge, blingy handbag. The typical Texas girl has a bit**y attitude and you can pick her out a mile away from all the "cowgirl" couture she wears. Tacky is what comes to mind. There are a lot of women in Texas that do not fit this profile, but a "typical Texas girl" is what I described above. Steer clear. It's a Jerry Springer Show in the making.

My sister’s a native Texas girl... we’re 5th generation. She got her bachelors degree in mathematics and a masters in Chem. E. Worked her first job in Houston in the early 70’s as the only female engineer in a LARGE oil company. Liz could casterate any of her male coworkers with a smile on her face and the guy thanking her afterwords never knowing what hit him (now that’s southern charm, huh?). They learned to not ask her to get them coffee or to take dictation... one of the smartest people I know.

Resourceful & self-reliant, smart, loads of initiative and drive, excellent entrpreneur (about a dozen patents to her credit) and amazingly enough, didn’t have to go to California to learn all that (seems we already had those traits here in Texas, Ms. Californicator). She’s played piano since childhood (bangs out a hot boogie-woogie), learned that at the same time we were learning how to ride horses at our grandparents place. Married a man who is equally as competent and well versed in many things. He talks funny though, being from Great Britian.

So, how do you define a Texas Girl? I’d say alot of what’s been said and then, more. One thing I know, is that pretty much every state has got their type of “Texas Girl” that is equally as accomplished. Just have to know what you’re looking for and generally speaking, you won’t pick her up in a bar.
