the funny thing about this map is not the size of Texas, its how the Texas cities are all mixed up.

They put Austin closer to Houston than to San Antonio. They put FW closer to Wichita Falls than to Dallas.

That's because the TX outline is so misshapen. The cities are well placed with respect to it.

Sorry LAnative, but I'll have to call shenanigans. This joke is hardly just a Texan thing. And that's what it mostly is, a joke. Sure, Texans can be pretty inward, but that's not out of arrogance, but mostly just out of solidarity.

Anyway, here's a New Yorker cover. Jokes!

"their" arrogant...? How about "they're?"

It was a JOKE. One thing about Texans, we can laugh and poke fun at ourselves. Too bad that can't be said for so many other places.

TexasGirl@Heart is one of the very few non-natives who can join in the fun without being condescending or nasty. She gets it.

That's more than I can say for so many others! If Texas has to keep growing, we can only hope that more like her come--instead of those who basically hate the place.

LAnative is a Texas fan. I think the impending vote might have him a bit down. It has me down, and I've lived here my whole life. Grumble grumble.
