The jobs situation isn't that great across the state, but it is better than a lot of other places. That being said, there are a LOT of places that have great schools and neighborhoods. Try the suburbs of Austin, Fort Worth, Dallas, San Antonio, Houston. Lots of smaller cities are good, too, such as College Station, Tyler, Lubbock, etc. More specifics might help narrow it down such as what kind of work and what kind of climate do you want to live in? Asking for the best place to live in Texas is like googling for the last name "Smith."

Finding great schools, nice neighborhoods, and good jobs in Texas is probably about like finding great schools, nice neighborhoods, and good jobs in Virginia. You really need to know what you want and where you want to find it.

My suggestion is that > If you don't know, absolutely, that you want to move to Texas then you should heavily consider your options. There's nothing quite so disheartening than someone who has moved to Texas because of its positive hype, only to find it a hell hole that's impossible to get out of.

Do some research, make a good decision. City-Data can assist in that research but a decision shouldn't be based on replies in a forum.
