Yes, the state is planning to slash education funding. But individual districts still have much autonomy in deciding how to budget their money. There certainly aren't any restrictions from the state level that require local districts to spend on say...football...instead of science labs or music.

In any event, I'd be curious to see how athletic budgets pencil out at the typical HS. What percentage of the budget is coaching vs equipment vs travel vs grounds keeping and utilities (water and electricity).

But yes, this thread is very old.

But, we know that most likely won't happen. Football over academics is the law of the land.

There was already a very long thread on it back when it was relevant.

I didn't see the thread either. But since the story is 8 months it's no longer "relevant". It's bothering someone that we are discussing it, so we must stop I guess.

The story isn't over. There is a current petition protesting the court's order that the girl's family pay $35K in legal fees.

and for someone from MI to reopen an old thread just to complain about how justice in TX works--
looks like you could find enough stories about unjust events in Michigan

This thread was started two days ago. Nobody seems to be able to find an old thread about it either. Plus Texas has one of the most screwed up governments in the country. It's not normal to expect someone to pay $35,000 because they wouldn't cheer for someone that raped them.

I love watching and rooting for school sports but this is too far. The school should be able to understand her predicament if she said how she had a problem with it.

Any real, open, just-the-facts information on this?

Did they publish the lawsuit?
