Compared to some of those dimly lit empty shanty rest stops I saw in those other states I'll take the truckers presence any day of the week.

I-10...West Texas? Made the trip countless times...and can not think of one nice place to stop. Do your best to push right into San Antonio.

I have to agree about the rest stops, having driven I-10 across Texas twice last week. Good thing too because the gas stations, resturants and hotels are the worst.

Just came back from San Diego last week... dunno about your comment. Just my personal observation from that trip.

I did notice the Border Patrol on the Tx-La and Tx -NM borders, perhaps setting up for when Texans are illegals

OMG! I'm just now learning this??? At my age??? I remember those steps over fences at the rest stops but I always thought they were for us kids to play on! Being a girl, I never knew otherwise! Geez... I can sure tell my parents were Yankees! And to think I was told to "hold it" until we got somewhere with a bathroom. Dang!!!

Some of these still exist on secondary highways in west Texas.

If you found Ft Stockton and Van Horn a pleasurable experience...well, bless your heart.
